Assessment policy

Each module closes with one performance-based summative task. Formative checks happen every lesson and are recorded as app XP so progress is visible to teacher and learner.

Essential questions
  • How does a syllabary differ from an alphabet, and what does that change about reading?
  • Which sounds in Amharic do not exist in English, and how do I produce them?
  • How do I move from recognising a letter to writing and pronouncing it confidently?
Learning objectives
  1. Explain the seven-order structure of the fidel and locate any character on the chart.
  2. Read and write the αˆ€, ለ, መ, ሰ, ረ, α‰ , α‰°, ነ, ከ, α‹ˆ families accurately.
  3. Produce the ejective consonants ጠ ጨ ጰ ጸ ቀ and distinguish geminated from single consonants.
  4. Transliterate short Amharic words in both directions with 80% accuracy.
